Exploring the possibilities
A new Lexus compact crossover concept, the striking LF-NX, will make its world premiere at the 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show (IAA). This unique concept vehicle will allow Lexus to explore the idea of a compact crossover within the broader Lexus range.
More compact than the RX at 4,640mm long with a 2,700mm wheelbase, the LF-NX concept focuses on the growing segment of smaller, more urban-centric compact premium SUVs.
A concept brought to life
The production vehicle of the LF-NX concept, the NX, has now been unveiled. The first model, the hybrid NX 300h, is due for launch in the fourth quarter of 2014, while the turbo NX 200T is due for launch in early 2015. Discover more about the ultimate luxury compact crossover.
Every element of a Lexus is carefully planned and executed for an experience that is undeniably premium.
A commitment to hybrid technology
Lexus has long been a leader in full hybrid technology and offers a range of vehicles that feature the technologically advanced Lexus Hybrid Drive. The LF-NX concept is powered by a new variant of the Lexus Hybrid Drive system tuned for SUV performance and targeting class-leading CO2 emissions.
The Lexus Hybrid Drive system combines a 2.5-litre, four-cylinder Atkinson cycle petrol engine with a powerful electric motor. At lower speeds, the LF-NX can operate under electric motor power alone.
Lexus Australia Chief Executive Sean Hanley said, "For almost 10 years now, Lexus has been committed to hybrid technology and the unveiling of the LF-NX concept is just another string in our hybrid bow. With its striking design, innovative on-board technology and hybrid power, the LF-NX is something we'd love to see here in Australia sometime in the future."
A captivating evolution continues
Lexus' captivating design language, L-finesse, has always struck an emotional chord throughout every stage of its development with carefully considered lines, unique touches and an attention to detail that simply does not allow for shortcuts. Now, the highly distinctive and powerfully sculpted exterior of the LF-NX concept memorably continues the evolution of L-finesse style.
The front of the vehicle is dominated by a strong interpretation of the Lexus spindle grille, extremely expressive signature front lighting with independent Daytime Running Lights (DRL), and unique corner styling which separates the bumper from the front wing with an aggressive vertical cut.
In profile, muscular wheel arches are trimmed with the black protective finish, while above the pronounced diamond shape of the belt line, a classic Lexus side glazing profile and steeply raked tailgate create the sweeping silhouette of an athletic coupe.
Lexus engineers take an approach to design that places the driver at the centre of their thinking, ensuring complete control once behind the wheel.
'Human Oriented' design
Lexus engineers take an approach to design that places the driver at the centre of their thinking, ensuring complete control once behind the wheel. This approach, the 'Human Oriented' L-finesse design concept, continues with the LF-NX which features an intelligently laid out upper display zone and lower operation zone dashboard. This driver-focused format has been refined and perfected over successive Lexus generations and ensures that the LF-NX, even as a concept vehicle, delivers an ergonomically ideal environment.
The power of touch
The intuitive 'Human Oriented' design incorporates Lexus' advanced next generation technology including touch-sensitive electrostatic switches and a new touch pad Remote Touch Interface (RTI) design. This means you can easily control the different functions of the vehicle while maintaining your attention on the road for a safer, more connected driving experience.
